Words are powerful. They tell stories, share information, and express who we are. With a Writing concentration, you’ll focus on how to best write for different genres, subjects, and professional circumstances. More importantly, you’ll learn how to use your words to effect change and tell your story.
Here’s what makes the Mount’s concentration in Writing unique:

As part of the Writing concentration, you’ll take four classes geared towards enhancing your writing skills. You will get to choose from a number of writing courses like Poetry, Playwriting, The Essay, or an internship.
You will also be required to complete your studies with the compilation of a capstone ePortfolio, consisting of writing samples from throughout your time at the Mount. This portfolio is more valuable than simply a memento of your college experience: It can also be given to employers post-graduation, as many employers ask to see samples at the time of application or interview.
Did you know that one of the most sought-after career traits is communication? No matter your intended career, a concentration in Writing will put you ahead of the rest, preparing you to write clearly and communicate effectively in a variety of professional settings.
If you’re interested in a writing-related field, a concentration in Writing paired with a major in English, Business, or the like will make you extra qualified to take on positions in communications, social and digital media, public relations, technical and marketing writing, and more.
